HomoQuotable - Christopher Doyle

"Putting 'ex-gay' in quotes suggested that such a sexual orientation is not valid, not recognized or both. But thousands of former homosexuals collectively identify themselves as such. The D.C. Superior Court ruled in 2009 that ex-gays are a protected sexual orientation class in the District. Not all persons who experience same-sex attractions choose to live gay lives. Many of us have voluntarily left a homosexual life through therapeutic work or behavioral choice. I did, and I have been happily married to a woman for nearly five years; we have two children. I no longer experience same-sex attraction and have no desire to return to the homosexual life. Please respect this choice." - Christopher Doyle, board member of Parents & Friends Of "Ex-Gays" (PFOX), in a letter to the Washington Post.

RELATED: You might recall that I had a brief encounter with Doyle in the parking lot of last year's evil NARTH convention, where he was supporting a group that spreads the most repulsive lies about gay people imaginable. But don't you dare put "ex-gay" in quotes.

The Good Guys At The NARTH Protest

Members of NARTH are featured in the slideshow one post down, these photos are all the good guys, the thinkers, those whose minds are unbound by prehistoric religious dogma and twisted unscientific hooey. I think we had about 40 folks willing to sacrifice a beautiful Saturday morning for a schlep out to a remote airport hotel crawling with people who wish them dead. They did this for you. Enjoy their signs.

The Douchebags Of NARTH

Today I participated in the Truth Wins Out protest at NARTH's annual convention in Philadelphia, where TWO's Wayne Besen led a chanting crowd of activists on the sidewalk outside their host hotel. Many of NARTH's attendees took turns peering at us from the windows, but hid from us (in shame) otherwise. However Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber, a speaker at the event, spent quite some time glowering at us from the front sidewalk.

When I first arrived, I got some shots of NARTH attendees inside the hotel, causing one to rush over yelling that I'd be arrested for "stalking" if I didn't leave. Which I did, but I still got to "stalk" some of these baby-killers out to their cars, as you'll see below. The tall bald guy is Christopher Doyle, an "ex-gay" who is on the board of PFOX and who is on staff with "ex-gay" whackadoodle Richard Cohen as a "Sexual Reorientation Coach" at the International Healing Foundation. If that wasn't enough for this professionally "former" cocksucker, he writes newspaper editorials arguing against the Day Of Silence. Anyway, I don't think pillow-whacker Richard Cohen has totally gotten Doyle in touch with his "natural masculine nature," because when I kept taking photos, Doyle put his hand on his hip and hissed, "I don't need this. Why don't you just sssssssstop!"

The slideshow in this post is of NARTH's asshats only as I don't want anyone confusing these self-haters with our heroes at the protest. And that's easy to do because everybody in all of today's photos are completely, totally, forever and ever, always will be, 100% homo G.A.Y.

SATURDAY AT 8PM: JMG Reader Meet-Up At Philadelphia's Westbury Bar

Sorry for the last minute notice, but based on suggestions from the Facebook gang, we've decided on the Westbury Bar for tomorrow's 8pm JMG reader meet-up in Philadelphia. Westbury is at 261 South 13th Street in the heart of the gayborhood and (I'm told) meets our requirements of dive-y, friendly, and not too loud. I hope to meet lots of you there!

And remember, tomorrow is Truth Wins Out's protest at the opening of NARTH's annual convention at the Philadelphia Renaissance Airport Hotel. If you need a ride, TWO has room for up to 90 "luggage lifters" on their bus, which departs from the LGBT Center at 11:30am. Hit the Lift My Luggage site for suggestions if you're making signs.

Journey Into Manhood 2010: Now With MORE Hot "Ex-Gay" Man-Rubbing!

Journey Into Manhood, the backwoods "lets hug that sweaty homo-sex outta you, dude" conference has announced its 2010 schedule. Via Christian Newswire:
Surveys of past Journey Into Manhood participants indicate that four out of five men surveyed have experienced a decrease in homosexual attractions. More than half report an increase in heterosexual attractions, while nine out of 10 report a decrease in distress or shame. Ninety-five percent say they would recommend the program to others. Although Journey Into Manhood is not a religious weekend, it has been endorsed by the founders of both the leading Catholic and Jewish ministries serving people who are working to resolve unwanted homosexuality. It has also been endorsed by one of the world's leading psychologists supporting sexual reorientation: Dr. Joseph Nicolosi (NARTH).

Journey Into Manhood, is coming to England October 29 to 31, then to the U.S. states of Texas (Nov. 12 to 14) and Florida (Dec. 3 to 5). Journey Into Manhood is a 48-hour immersion in self-discovery, catharsis and emotional healing for men who feel that their homosexual attractions stem largely from unhealed emotional wounds and unmet needs, including, oftentimes, a history of alienation from male peers. Each weekend is peer-led by about 20 volunteers, including men who have resolved homosexuality themselves. The cost is US$650, including meals and accommodations at the camp or retreat center.
You may recall straight reporter Ted Cox went undercover at a recent Journey Into Manhood. An excerpt from his creepy experience:
At one point, the staff members all sang out in unison, their voices filling the high walls of the camp lodge. Somewhere in the room, a man sobbed over the sound of the music. It was the first night of “Journey into Manhood,” a 48-hour weekend retreat designed to help gay men become straight. In that room, about fifty men — some thirty “Journeyers” and fifteen staff members — sat on the carpeted floor of a ranch lodge two hours outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Most of the men, except for a few of the staff members, struggled to overcome their attraction to other men. Sometime during all that holding and touching and singing, while I was cradled in the Motorcycle position, I felt it: the unmistakable bulge pressing through his tight jeans. It was the first time in my life I had a felt another man’s erection.
Check out the Journey Into Manhood website. If you can bear it, here's their promotional video.

FLORIDA: Anti-Gay AG Bill McCollum LOSES Gubernatorial GOP Primary

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, the man who paid Dr. George "Rentboy" Rekers $130,000 in his bid to keep gay adoption illegal, has lost his GOP primary bid to become his state's next governor.
Former health-care executive Rick Scott clung to a narrow lead over Attorney General Bill McCollum on Tuesday night in the race for the Republican nomination for governor, as the most-expensive primary -- and one of the ugliest -- in Florida history staggered to a bitter conclusion. News services began calling the race for Scott shortly before 11 p.m. With 89 percent of precincts reporting, Scott had 47 percent of the vote to McCollum's 43 percent, a lead he had held most of the night. A third GOP candidate, Mike McCalister, garnered a respectable 10 percent for having spent only $8,000 -- a vote some attributed to voter disgust with the two leading candidates.
GOP winner Rick Scott is an teabagger anti-gay scumbag too, but we'll worry about him when he faces Democrat Alex Sink in November. For now, let's fucking celebrate the loss of Pig McCollum.

UPDATE: McCollum's concession speech continued his pandering to bigots: "My campaign for Governor may be over, but I remain committed to serving our state and serving out the rest of my term as Florida’s Attorney General. We will continue our fight against Obamacare, continue to support states’ rights and their authority to crack down on illegal immigration and fight for all Floridians."

FLORIDA: GOP Candidate For Gov Rips AG Bill McCollum Over Rekers Scandal

With the Florida primary less than a week away, GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott, who is trailing Attorney General Bill McCollum by 12 points, has launched an all-out effort to further saddle McCollum with the George Rekers rentboy scandal, as evidenced by the above mailer Scott sent to voters this week. Readers of this blog temporarily shut down McCollum's Facebook page numerous times after the scandal broke, but thus far he seems relatively unscathed in the electorate's minds. Hopefully this new campaign by Scott (who is a douchebag as well) will have some legs through November.

Bill McCullom: George Rekers Was The Best Anti-Gay "Expert" We Could Find

Anti-Gay Prop 8 Witness Confesses: I Lied About Using Dr. George Rekers' Research

On May 25th, Prop 8 witness David Blankenhorn wrote to the New York Times complaining that columnist Frank Rich had wrongly associated him with Dr. George "Anal Longstroke" Rekers.
My expert report to the court — which was written entirely by me, includes a list of scholarly sources and is available for anyone to read — includes no mention of Mr. Rekers. And for good reason: I have never met Mr. Rekers or read any of his writings. I recently learned that a separate, lawyer-generated document submitted to the court apparently does list an article by Mr. Rekers in connection with my testimony, but that document, on this point, is in error.
Only, whoops! This week Blankenhorn wrote back to the Times with the truth.
In a letter published on May 25, I incorrectly stated that I have never read anything written by the conservative minister George Rekers. In fact, in preparing for my report and deposition in the California Proposition 8 trial, I read one report to the court on a previous California marriage case written by Mr. Rekers, as well as a report to the same court taking a position opposed to Mr. Rekers’s.
"Incorrectly stated." Yeeeeeeah.

Florida AG Bill McCollum Hired Dr. George Rekers Against The Advice Of Own Staff

Florida's newspapers are keeping the pressure on state Attorney General Bill McCollum. Today the Sarasota Herald-Tribune revealed that McCollum hired Dr. George Rekers even though his own staff warned him strongly against it. Which proves, again, that McCollum is a liar, as he's previously he claimed that he only hired Rekers because his staff told him to.
E-mails released Thursday show that an attorney in McCollum's own office warned against hiring Rekers, whose testimony had been deemed suspect in an earlier Arkansas lawsuit that challenged a ban on placing foster children in homes with gay parents. Assistant Attorney General Valerie Martin wrote in a July 2007 e-mail that after talking to Arkansas officials and reviewing the background of the former University of South Carolina professor that she would "recommend NOT using him."

E-mails also show that during a conference call Martin -- who said the state considered more than 30 possible expert witnesses -- was ordered to hire Rekers "against my strong cautions." The e-mails were included in public records that were obtained from McCollum's office detailing the selection and payment of Rekers. McCollum said he agreed to release the records even though the lawsuit is still on appeal so the public could see "the entire process" used in selecting Rekers. McCollum on Thursday again defended the hiring of Rekers and said that one of the reasons he was hired is that he had been used as an expert witness in a previous federal lawsuit that had challenged the ban. Other attorneys in his office believed Rekers could help if the case wound up getting appealed. "There were discussions and there were differences of opinion among our attorneys over the hiring of this expert witness. There was a decision made ultimately by me," said McCollum.
McCollum told the paper yesterday: "I think there should be no doubt about the fact that he actually performed the function that he was asked to do, he did the work. This is not a case of overpaying him, he was paid a reasonable fee." Yes, Bill. It's "reasonable" to pay somebody over $120,000 to rip apart Florida's gay families.

I'm heartened that Florida's mainstream media is being so dogged in their pursuit of this story and that McCollum is still being forced to talk about gay male prostitution and its connection to the Family Research Council's Dr. George Rekers.

UPDATE: Nadine Smith at Equality Florida sends us the links to the Rekers documents they requested from the state of Florida. She warns that there are tens of thousands of pages within. If anybody has the time, dig in and see if you can unearth some good dirt. The various documents on McCollum’s hiring of Rekers can be downloaded here: McCollum’s Office. Department of Children & Families.

Fake Pediatricians Group Dumps Rekers

You've really got to be a scumbag when other scumbags won't be seen with you. After being disavowed by the Family Research Council (which he co-founded) and by NARTH, for whom he wrote extensively and sat on their board of directors, Dr. George Rekers has now been dumped by that fake pediatricians group fronted by NARTH members. Wayne Besen reports at Truth Wins Out:
The American College of Pediatricians (ACP) has dumped George “rent boy” Rekers from its “Pediatric Psychosocial Development Committee”. Until now, the organization was one of the few anti-gay groups to stick by the disgraced charlatan. This is an important development because The American College of Pediatricians recently launched an anti-gay website, Facts About Youth, that was bereft of basic truth and objective reality. The ACP also sent letters promoting their propaganda to more than 10,000 school superintendents across America.
Man overboard!
