Afternoon View - Right Wing Watch

Folks, meet Right Wing Watch bloggers Brian Tashman and Kyle Mantyla. Between the two of them, they probably provide more JMG video and hate-quote content than any other site I regularly reference. Big props and snaps to them both!

Afternoon View - MSP Bike Share

Minneapolis has a groovy public bike sharing system similar to the one I fell in love with in Montreal.

Afternoon View - Cranky Manx

This raspy-voiced fellow has been pacing on the railing outside my hotel room every morning.

Afternoon View - MIA To EYW

Father Tony and I are about to board our little prop plane for the hop from Miami to Key West, where we'll be celebrating Gay Pride Week. Nonstop.

Afternoon View - Coming Soon

It has always annoyed my visitors that the closest Starbucks were an unreasonable (by Manhattan standards) seven to ten blocks away. But not for much longer as the chain just began construction at the massive and long-empty former Citibank space on my corner.

Afternoon View

The water taxi from downtown Manhattan to Brooklyn provides a great view of the Statue of Liberty.

Afternoon View - Hell's Kitchen

The wall of skyscrapers across the top of this photo sort of define the eastern boundary of Hell's Kitchen, which is mostly low-rise. For now.

Afternoon View - Sunrise Drawbridge

When I used to live here it would piss me off to have to wait in hot baking traffic just so some billionaire could move his yacht though one of the drawbridges. Now I just wonder what the inside of the yacht looks like.

Afternoon View - 70th & Second

The MTA just installed eight double-stacked construction trailers at the end of my block, meaning shit's about get real for our section of the coming Second Avenue subway. The street has already been torn up here for about three years and at least a dozen shops have gone under within a block of my corner. But hey, I'll have a stop right there in...2017. Maybe.

Afternoon View - Orlando Main Library

Like many Brutalist buildings, Orlando's Main Public Library looks like a prison. Unfortunately my alma mater, UCF, also features a major example of ugly Brutalism.

Afternoon View - Porky's Bayside

Father Tony and I just crossed the Seven Mile Bridge and have stopped on Marathon for conch fritters and pulled pork at the way-funky Porky's Bayside Shack. Where they have free wifi. Go figure!

Afternoon View - Key West Phelpsian

Even in the paradise of Key West, whose city motto is "One Human Family," one cannot escape Christianist hatred, as discovered by Father Tony and his husband, who ran across this idiot standing on the city side of the final bridge to the island. Does anybody know if he's actually part of Westboro? Or is he just a local loon? Note the camera in his right hand, which he has at the ready in case anybody "tries something."
