Morning View - Helmsley Building
Built in 1929 as the New York Central Railroad Building, it was purchased in the 80's by the Helmsleys. "Queen Of Mean" Leona later stipulated that all future owners of the building must keep its Helmsley name. In 2006 the Helmsley was purchased for $705M by the royal family of Dubai, who sold it one year later to Goldman Sachs for $1B. Flip this house. The building just completed a $100M green retrofit which included replacing all of its windows with double-paned glass.

Afternoon View - Fifth Avenue Apple Store
Just the entrance, actually, since the store itself is underground. I'm not an Apple customer, but I walked in just to see the store and found about 200 people snaked around around store's aisles in a line to buy the iPhone 4. Still. Months after it came out. Craziness.

Afternoon View - Ethel Barrymore Theatre
David Mamet's Race actually closed a couple of weeks ago. Next up at the 82 year-old Barrymore is Elling, starring Brendan Fraser and Jennifer Coolidge, which opens in November. The Ethel Barrymore is the last surviving Schubert theater specifically built for a performer of the day.
