Minneapolis has a groovy public bike sharing system similar to the one I fell in love with in Montreal.

CNN Doesn't Have A Closet?

I shouldn't joke, pretty much everybody I know has had their bike stolen in the last year. Personally, I won't buy a lock or a chain because that way I won't be tempted to leave my bike on the street.

Morning View - Bixi Stand

Montreal has a fantastic public bike system called Bixi (bike-taxi), in which you can swipe a credit card and take a bike for free for up to 30 minutes. Longer rides start at $1.50/hour and are very reasonable thereafter. You can return to the bike to any of the numerous docking stands around town, making them perfect for short one-way commutes. An iPhone app will tell you the closest available bike and the closest open dock for returns. The stands are everywhere.

NYC's Naked Bike Ride

Yesterday a couple of hundred (mostly) naked bike riders rode from Williamsburg, Brooklyn to the Christopher Street piers and then to the United Nations as part a protest against BP. Cops made no arrests.

NETHERLANDS: Bicycle Rush Hour

According to this clip's description, one-third of all trips in Utrecht, Netherlands are made by bicycle. The U.S. average is less than 1%.
