SOUTH CAROLINA: Woman Murders Dog For Chewing On Her Bible

A South Carolina woman says that God told her to murder her nephew's dog because it chewed on her bible.

Miriam Fowler Smith, 65, told cops on Monday that she hung and burned her nephew's pit bull after the animal took a bite out of her bible. She claimed God urged her to kill Diamond, a 1-year-old female dog, because the animal was a "devil dog" and would hurt neighborhood children. Smith was arrested on Sunday and remains in Spartanburg County jail. She could face faces 180 days or up to five years behind bars if she's convicted with felony animal cruelty. She does not have a lawyer yet. Authorities said Smith confessed to wrapping an extension cord around Diamond's neck, hung the animal from a tree, and then set the pup on fire.

Anyway, famous outer-of-self-hating-queers Mike Rogers says he’s got pictures of one of Lindsey’s boy toys leaving Lindsey’s house. This would be SHOCKING because come on, everybody knows Republicans cannot be gay because Jesus did not make gays.

SOUTH CAROLINA: Teabaggers Ramp Up Calls For Secession From United States

Emboldened by Tea Party wins in the midterm elections, the loons of South Carolina's secession movement have issued their "plan for independence" from the United States.

Currently, South Carolina and her people are controlled by the federal government of the United States, which is controlled by the votes of the citizens in a few select populous states. California, New York, Massachusetts, and a few others decide who makes the laws that rule over us, and our votes are simply outnumbered and meaningless. (It is still up to debate as to whether any of the votes of the people in those states even matter, given the ongoing state of corruption in Washington, D.C.) We believe this is a fundamental violation of our right to self-determination and self-government, and therefore we must act as a state to restore sovereignty. [snip] Secession is the ultimate act of political independence for the people of South Carolina. Secession would mean the dissolution of the union between South Carolina and the other states of America, removing our state from the voluntary compact of the Constitution. Following secession, South Carolina would be a completely free and independent country, a totally sovereign state.

In 1860 South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union. The first shots of the Civil War were fired at South Carolina's Fort Sumter several months later.

Somebody Slipped Him A Mickey

Responding to a burglary call, cops in South Carolina say they were forced to taser and club a deranged naked man that they later said may have hallucinating on mushrooms. After transporting the man to a hospital, a small discovery was made.

During a medical exam at a nearby hospital, medical personnel found a mouse tail hanging from Smith's rectum. An X-ray revealed a mouse lodged inside Smith. He told emergency room personnel that he could not remember what had happened to him. After the medical exam, he was charged with resisting arrest, 1st and 3rd degree assault a battery charges, and indecent exposure. Smith was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center.

Family Research Council Requests Prayers For Sen. Jim DeMint's Anti-Gay Campaigns

Saying that Tea Party hero Sen. Jim DeMint is facing attacks from within the GOP because his support for anti-gay teabaggers cost them their Senate majority, the Family Research Council is asking for one million of their followers to pledge to pray for the asshat bigot every day.

After what should have been a proud moment for all Republicans on Tuesday night, the GOP is angry about "what ifs"--particularly if it had won seats in Colorado, Delaware, and Washington--defeats they blame almost unanimously on Jim DeMint. Apparently, fighting to bring true conservative candidates into the Senate instead of weak-kneed moderates who oppose the Republican platform makes Sen. DeMint a villain. One of his colleagues said, "It's like you're on the five-yard line ready to score, and the quarterback calls the play, and some member of your team tackles one of your members and keeps you from scoring." The only problem is that the "quarterback" is the old guard of the Republican Party. The same folks who backed big spending, pro-abortion, pro-gay GOP lap-dog incumbents.

At this writing, almost 13,000 FRC followers have signed the prayer pledge.

SOUTH CAROLINA: State Supreme Court Overturns Conviction For Anti-Gay Speech

The South Carolina Supreme Court has overturned the conviction of a street preacher who was arrested and fined after screaming anti-gay epithets at a lesbian couple.

Greenville Circuit Judge Edward Miller had previously upheld Joseph D. Bane's 2008 conviction, but the Supreme Court said a city rule against remarks that “humiliate, insult or scare” was too vague. All five of the court's justices also agreed there was no evidence to convict Bane under other provisions of the ordinance. According to the opinion handed down Monday, Bane was fined $200 after preaching loudly against homosexuality in downtown Greenville and, according to testimony, calling two women “faggots” who would “burn in hell.” Bane's attorney, Samuel Harms, said the ruling means residents can once again “preach against homosexuality without the fear of being arrested by a city police officer.” Harms said the city should have realized its ordinance was unconstitutional and voluntarily dismissed the case.

City attorneys say the state Supreme Court ignored local ordinances on disturbing the peace. The ACLU says that while it "abhors" the preacher's message, it supports the high court's decision.

American Family Association Endorses DeMint's Call For Banning Gay Teachers

Sen. Jim DeMint: Gays And Unmarried Women Should Not Be Teachers

GOP Sen. Jim DeMint told a group of South Carolina pastors on Friday that "open homosexuals" and unmarried women should not be allowed to teach in public schools.

In addition to reiterating anti-choice talking points on abortion and backing "traditional marriage," according to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, the senator went further and "said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn't be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who's sleeping with her boyfriend -- she shouldn't be in the classroom." Controversy over DeMint's position on this issue first arose in 2004 during a Senate debate, when he was asked whether he agreed with the state party's platform that said openly gay teachers should be barred from teaching public school. DeMint said he agreed with that position because government shouldn't be endorsing certain behaviors.

Referencing the controversy that resulted the last time DeMint made such remarks, he said, "(When I said those things,) no one came to my defense. But everyone would come to me and whisper that I shouldn't back down. They don't want government purging their rights and their freedom to religion."

Arizona's Copycats

The Washington Post tracks the states looking to copy Arizona's racist anti-immigrant law.

Lawmakers in Oklahoma, South Carolina and Utah, which have already taken steps against illegal immigration, say that Arizona-style measures have a realistic chance of passing when their legislatures reconvene in 2011. The Obama administration sued Arizona in federal court Tuesday, charging that the state law usurps federal authority, would hamper immigration enforcement and would lead to police harassment of those who have no proof of lawful status. The government asked that a federal judge stop the law from taking effect July 29. Legislators in at least 17 other states introduced bills this year similar to the Arizona law, which allows officers to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. But most of those measures are not considered likely to be adopted or signed by governors. The political climate in Oklahoma, South Carolina and Utah, however, improves the chances that state legislatures there could follow Arizona's lead in 2011.

Teabaggers Continue To Push Sen. Lindsey Graham To Come Out

The extreme right anti-immigrant group Americans For Legal Immigration has issued a press release calling on Sen. Lindsey Graham to come out of the closet. This weekend the group's leader mocked Graham's sexuality during a speech at a teabagger rally in South Carolina. The group claims that Graham is being blackmailed into anti-American activities because of his sexuality.

The national border security organization known as Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is officially calling for US Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to make his homosexual lifestyle public knowledge in the interest of political integrity and national security. "US Senator Lindsey Graham is gay and while many people in South Carolina and Washington DC know that, the general public and Graham's constituents do not," said William Gheen President of ALIPAC. "I personally do not care about Graham's private life, but in this situation his desire to keep this a secret may explain why he is doing a lot of political dirty work for others who have the power to reveal his secrets. Senator Graham needs to come out of the closet inside that log cabin so the public can rest assured he is not being manipulated with his secret."

The mostly-conservative (and publicly anti-gay) Graham is the only Republican working with the Democrats on immigration reform, hence this campaign.
