TEXAS: Lawmakers Pass Bill Requiring Sonograms Before Abortions
Today the Texas legislature finalized a bill that requires doctors to take a sonogram and offer to show the image to the patient before performing an abortion. Gov. Rick Perry is expected to sign the bill immediately.
The bill requires a doctor to conduct a sonogram at least 24 hours before an abortion and to give the woman the opportunity to see the results and hear the heartbeat of the fetus. Though the woman can choose not to view the images and hear the heartbeat, the doctor must describe what the sonogram shows, including the existence of legs, arms and internal organs. “This will be one of the strongest pieces of sonogram legislation in the nation,” the bill’s author, Representative Sid Miller, a Republican from Stephenville, told reporters. Mr. Miller predicted the measure would “save numerous unborn lives.” Because the measures passed both houses of the Legislature with a two-thirds majority, it will go into effect as soon as the governor signs it.

TEXAS: Gov. Rick Perry Prays For Rain
As wildfires continue to sweep across hundreds of thousands of acres, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has issued an official state proclamation urging residents to pray to God to send some rain. NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICK PERRY, Governor of Texas, under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Texas, do hereby proclaim the three-day period from Friday, April 22, 2011, to Sunday, April 24, 2011, as Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas. I urge Texans of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers on that day for the healing of our land, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of our normal and robust way of life.Perry's proclamation does not ask God what Texas did to piss Him off in the first place.

TX Gov. Perry: Medicare Is A Ponzi Scheme
Speaking to Fox News Sunday today, Texas Gov. Rick Perry called Medicare and Social Security "a Ponzi scheme" and unconstitutional.
"Do the things you're supposed to do, like securing our border, like delivering the mail -- preferably on time and on Saturdays -- before you get involved in things that the Constitution doesn't say one word about, like health care," replied Perry. Wallace followed Perry's logic and asked if he therefore believed the federal government should end Medicare and Medicaid, and send all the money to the states instead. "What I'm saying is between Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, there's $106 trillion in unfunded liabilities, and not one dime saved to pay for them," replied Perry, not directly answering the question.Texas has the nation's highest rate of uninsured residents, but Perry thinks the government is already doing too much to help the impoverished.

God Really DOES Hate Shrimp
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, seen here on his direct hotline to the Lord, says that maybe that pesky oil spill was just an act of God. “We don’t know what the event that has allowed for this massive oil to be released,” Perry said alongside several other governors on a panel Monday. “And until we know that, I hope we don’t see a knee-jerk reaction across this country that says we’re going to shut down drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, because the cost to this country will be staggering.” Perry questioned whether the spill was “just an act of God that occurred” and said that any “politically driven” decisions could put the U.S. in further economic peril. “From time to time there are going to be things that occur that are acts of God that cannot be prevented,” Perry said.God has not yet informed Perry whom He is punishing with the spill. Clearly, Perry doesn't think that it's British Petroleum. I wonder how much they donated to his campaign?
