Lady Gaga Sells 1.1M In First Week

The first week of sales for Lady Gaga's Born This Way are the highest for any release in the last six years.
Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 1,108,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's only the 17th album to sell a million in a week since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991, and the highest sales week since 2005. "Born This Way" also marks Gaga's first No. 1 album -- "The Fame" debut peaked at No. 2, while "The Fame Monster" EP reached No. 5 and dance effort "The Remix" hit No. 6. "Born This Way's" bow reaps the largest sales week of any album since 50 Cent's "The Massacre" did 1,141,000 in its first week, in March of 2005. The last time we had a million-plus frame was when Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" premiered at No. 1 with 1,047,000 in November of 2010. The SoundScan-era record week is held by NSYNC's "No Strings Attached," when it debuted at No. 1 with 2,416,000 in 2000.

It's Not Gay When It's A Three-Way

SNL was actually funny last night, thanks to Lady Gaga and host Justin Timberlake. NBC's embed code for the below clip wants to install a pop-up, so we'll go with this probably short-lived rip from YouTube.

NEW YORK CITY: Lady Gaga To Donate $1M To Groups Supporting LGBT Youth

Hometown girl Lady Gaga has pledged to donate $1M to the Robin Hood Foundation, which will distribute the funds to five NYC-based organizations that support impoverished LGBT youth. Among the beneficiaries is the Hetrick-Martin Institute, where many of Ali Forney Center's homeless gay kids go to school. Visit Gaga's Facebook page and vote on your favorite charity. The top vote-getter gets half the money and that might make it hard to choose, but what a great problem to have! And you don't have to be a New Yorker to participate.

Voting is open until May 6th.

Chuck Colson Attacks Lady Gaga

"Do people choose to be gay, or are they born that way? Here’s a tip: Don’t turn to Lady Gaga for an answer. For the Christian, thinking in terms of dichotomies such as 'nature versus nurture' and 'genetics versus free will' is the real problem. For us, it’s not either-or. Who we are cannot be reduced to any one thing. For instance, Christianity teaches that biology and the rest of creation has a great deal to teach us about how we should live. This is part of what we mean by “natural law.” An obvious example is the biological facts that lie behind the teaching that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

"But saying that biology is somehow normative is not the same thing as saying that is determinative. We are free to choose how we behave, both for good and for ill. We are not 'slaves to our biology' unless we choose to make ourselves so by believing it to be the case. To say we are is beneath our dignity as humans made in the image of God, not to mention a denial of the power of God to transform us." - Convicted felon and Manhattan Declaration author Chuck Colson, joining the Christianist attacks on Lady Gaga for saying we were "born this way."

RELATED: The fastest-selling single in iTunes history, Born This Way has already sold millions of copies worldwide and has gone to #1 in more than 30 countries. Whether you're a Gaga fan or not, you cannot deny the unprecedented impact of hundreds of millions of people singing out loud, that yes, we were born this way. Lady Gaga is pushing the movement forward in ways few could have possibly fathomed.

Target Responds To Dropped Gaga Deal

"We were very surprised and disappointed by the statements made by Lady Gaga's organization related to her partnership with Target. Target remains committed to the LGBT community as demonstrated by our contributions to various LGBT organizations, our recently established Policy Committee to review our political giving and our respectful, inclusive workplace environment." - Target spokesperson.

Quote Of The Day - Jim Daly

"First, by Stefani Germanotta’s own admission, she’s built her entire persona and celebrity on a platform that’s anything but typical. She is playing a part, a role, and not living as she would outside the bright lights. Put another way, Lady Gaga was clearly not born this way.

"Second, and more importantly, the message found within the lyrics of Born This Way is in stark contrast to the message of the Gospel. All of us are born into sin, the Bible tells us, with desires and resulting actions that separate us from God and put us at odds with His blueprint for our lives. But the Good News is we’re not hopelessly trapped in our sin and failure. Despite the fact that we were 'born this way,' each of us can be set free – from homosexuality, or heterosexual sex outside of marriage, or pornography, or greed, or gossip, or any other human shortcoming – to be the men and women God intended us to be." - Focus On The Family head Jim Daly, attacking Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga Ends Target Deal

Earlier this month it was reported that Lady Gaga had struck a special promotional deal with Target with the stipulation that the company "start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups." Now it appears that deal has fallen through.
Carmen Cacciatore, co-founder of Fly-Life marketing agency, announced this afternoon that the earlier reported deal between Target Corp. and Lady Gaga was dissolved this past week. Bob Witeck of Witeck-Combs Communications was familiar with the dissolved deal, although he does not represent Gaga or any of the parties, and told Metro Weekly, "Despite the expectation that this was all unfolding as a deal, it has been in a sensitive stage of continued discussion for probably the last three weeks." He added, "Quite a few people, even early on, were afraid it was going to dissolve."

BUFFALO: Lady Gaga Calls On State Senator To Change His Marriage Position

Lady Gaga took a moment during Friday's concert in Buffalo to call on her fans to deluge New York state Sen. Mark Grisanti with demands that he endorse marriage equality. In 2008 Grisanti declared that he was "unalterably opposed" to gay marriage. But Gaga says he's now "on the fence."
"There's a senator here in Buffalo that's on the fence about whether or not to vote for this particular bill and I would like to give you all his e-mail," Lady Gaga told the crowd in HSBC Arena. "His name is Sen. Mark Grisanti." She urged her fans to e-mail Grisanti and suggested "2,000 e-mails in his BlackBerry this evening or tomorrow" might help sway his position on marriage equality. Later, she posted this message on her Facebook page: "Buffalo, we need SEN.GRISANTI to help pass NY STATE MARRIAGE BILL e-mail grisanti@nysenate.gov #IWasBornThisWay."
Gristanti's spokesman responded to Gaga's move by announcing an upcoming meeting with a local marriage equality group. That's encouraging.
