Michelle Malkin: The Left Is Worse

"The Tuscon massacre ghouls who are now trying to criminalize conservatism have forced our hand. They need to be reminded. You need to be reminded. Confront them. Don’t be cowed into silence. And don’t let the media whitewash the sins of the hypocritical Left in their naked attempt to suppress the law-abiding, constitutionally-protected, peaceful, vigorous political speech of the Right. They want to play tu quo que in the middle of a national tragedy? They asked for it. They got it." - Conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, in the opening to a lengthy post detailing violent imagery, rhetoric and name calling by progressive personalities, protesters, and bloggers. On her list, Malkin quotes her 2008 post about JMG commenters reacting to Proposition 8.

IRELAND: Openly Gay Sen. David Norris Leads Polling For Next President

Ireland's openly gay Sen. David Norris is leading the polls to succeed Mary McAleese as that nation's next president.
The Independent Senator received the backing of 27% of those surveyed by Red C in a poll for Paddy Power bookmakers. The poll found Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness in second place, with 13% support, although this is due to the Fianna Fáil and Labour votes each being split by the inclusion of two candidates each. Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern receives the backing of 12% of those surveyed, while his party colleague MEP Brian Crowley gets 10%.
The election is in October. Ireland's presidency is largely ceremonial.

Log Cabin Republicans Announce Plan To Create More Log Cabin Republicans

The Log Cabin Republicans have announced a new campaign to create the "gay GOP leaders of tomorrow." Via press release:
Log Cabin Republicans of New York today announced the Starting at 1 initiative: beginning on January 1, 2011 (1/1/11) and continuing throughout the coming year, Log Cabin Republicans of New York members will regularly receive information designed to inspire a more involved, engaged and knowledgeable gay Republican electorate.

“Right now we have a politically savvy membership, and it’s time to take things to the next level,” Log Cabin Republicans of New York State Chairman Gregory T. Angelo stated. “Starting at 1 is designed to take the enthusiasm we’ve seen from our members for everything from joining their local Community Board to becoming more involved in the Republican County Committee and even running for office. With the momentum from the 2010 Midterm Elections driving us forward and the mounting excitement for the 2012 Presidential Election ahead, 2011 is the perfect time to begin building the gay GOP leaders of tomorrow, and Starting at 1 seeks to give individuals the tools to do just that.”

Quote Of The Day II - Jimmy Carter

"Step-by-step, we have realized that this issue of homosexuality has the same adverse and progressive elements as when we dealt with the race issue 50 years ago, or 40 years ago. So I would say that the country is getting acclimated to a president who might be female, who might, obviously, now, be Black, and who might be as well a gay person." - Former President Jimmy Carter, in a video commentary on Big Think.

JMG Wins Village Voice 2010 Web Award For "Best Political Blog"

Last night I attended the Village Voice 2010 Web Awards where JMG was awarded Best Political Blog! I was asked not to blog about it until after the event and I don't even know who my competitors were, but whatevs! The downtown Manhattan awards show was a hipster mosh-pit and didn't feel very gay at all, but lots of folks approached me with congrats and outed themselves as JMG readers. Very interestingly, most of them were young female hotties. Who knew?

Among the other winners were the famed Gregory Brothers (of Auto-Tuned News fame) who won Best Viral Video for their stone 2010 classic Bed Intruder, which at this writing has 46 million views on YouTube. The Gregory boys were very fun and my loyal companion Dr. Jeff totally plotzed to pose for photos with them. I also finally met famed and openly gay Voice political columnist Steven Thrasher and Buzzfeed homo pop culture king Matt Stopera, who provides us with the detritus of gay weirdness like yesterday's John Waters/Justin Bieber photo.

Comedian Todd Barry hosted the evening with irreverence and disregard for the winners' pleasure at receiving a Village Voice plaque, a giant green foam "thumbs up," and a surprisingly heavy bag of healthy crap from event sponsor Whole Foods that I immediately re-gifted to Dr. Jeff. (The highlight of the winners' gift bag, for most, seemed to be a ginormous can of Four Loko from what was said to be the final case in all of New York City. Dr. Jeff took that too.) I'll add a slideshow to this post a bit later, right now I'm a little hammered from the open bar.

Daily Grumble

Anytime a politician utters a sentence which begins "What the American people want..." - they should be delivered a sharp electrical jolt in the gut. Just enough to make them stop. And maybe pee a little.
