Moments ago, Keith Olbermann announced his resignation from MSNBC. Seconds after his show ended, this terse press release hit my inbox:
MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors.
More to come....

UPDATE: The new MSNBC evening line-up as of Monday: 6pm Cenk Uygur, 7pm Chris Matthews, 8pm Lawrence O'Donnell, 9pm Rachel Maddow, 10pm Ed Schultz.

UPDATE II: Anderson Cooper: He was FIRED. UPDATE III: Here's Olbermann sign-off from tonight.

UPDATE IV: Anderson Cooper and crew are back-tracking from their earlier "fired" comment, saying that as of now "there is no known direct connection" between the Comcast acquisition of NBC-Universal and Olbermann's departure. Yeeeah, right.

Bristol Palin On Keith Olbermann

Bristol Palin isn't happy about being one of Olbermann's "Worst Person In The World" targets for preaching abstinence while being a teen mother.
Accusing me of hypocrisy is by now, an old canard. What Mr. Olbermann lacks in originality he makes up for with insincere incredulity. Mr. Olbermann fails to understand that in order to have credibility as a spokesperson, it sometimes takes a person who has made mistakes. Parents warn their children about the mistakes they made so they are not repeated. Former gang members travel to schools to educate teenagers about the risks of gang life. Recovered addicts lecture to others about the risks of alcohol and drug abuse. And yes, a teen mother talks about the benefits of preventing teen pregnancy. I have never claimed to be perfect. If that makes me the "worst person in the world" to Mr. Olbermann, then I must apologize for not being absolutely faultless like he undoubtedly must be.
Nobody seriously believes that Bristol Palin knows the meaning of the word "canard," do they?

Dan Savage: McCain Is A Bigot

"There's really no other explanation for his backflips and his hypocrisy other than just irrational animus, which is the definition of bigotry."

OLBERMANN REDUX: Joe Scarborough Suspended Over Political Donations

As they did with Keith Olbermann, MSNBC has suspended commentator Joe Scarborough over his political donations.
MSNBC said Friday that it is suspending “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough for two days after he acknowledged giving eight previously unknown $500 contributions to friends and family members running for state and local offices during his tenure at the network, a violation of parent NBC’s ban on political contributions by employees without specific permission from the network president. “I recognize that I have a responsibility to honor the guidelines and conditions of my employment, and I regret that I failed to do so in this matter,” Scarborough said in a statement. “I apologize to MSNBC and to anyone who has been negatively affected by my actions,” he said, adding that after he was made aware of some of the contributions, he called MSNBC President Phil Griffin “and agreed with Phil's immediate demand of a two-day suspension without pay.”
RELATED: Scarborough has been rumored as one-half of a potential 2012 presidential "odd couple" independent ticket with NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg as his running mate. The top name on that ticket changes depends on which rumor you're reading.

Keith Olbermann Slams Pat Sajak

Wingnut Wheel Of Fortune host Pat Sajak has "apologized" for introducing Keith Olbermann to America. Olbermann fires back.
Pat Sajak did not introduce me to America. I started on CNN the same year he started on “Wheel” (1981) and by the time I guested on his show in 1989, I’d already spent three years as a national sports correspondent for CNN, had a feature done on me by The Today Show (1986), been on the CBS Evening News (1988), and begun guest-hosting on ESPN (1989). I think if he needs to apologize for anything it needs to be that talk show. When he was canceled, he was replaced by a crime-and-skin series called “Silk Stalkings,” for God’s sake.
Sajak regularly posts global warming denials and other claims of "lamestream media conspiracies" at various right-wing websites.

Keith Olbermann To Return On Tuesday

MSNBC has unsuspended Keith Olbermann and he'll be back on the air tomorrow night.
"After several days of deliberation and discussion, I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night's program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy," MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement released late Sunday. "We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night."

Maddow On Olbermann's Suspension

Rachel Maddow says she understands NBC's rule, but that Olbermann should be un-suspended at once. Maddow devotes a large portion of the segment to ticking off a long list of candidates stumped for on the air by Fox News hosts.

NBC News Suspends MSNBC Host Keith Olbermann Over Campaign Donations

NBC News has indefinitely suspended MSNBC host Keith Olbermann over political donations his employers say he made in violation of their ethics policy.
The announcement came in a one-sentence statement from MSNBC-TV President Phil Griffin: “I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay.” The donations were first reported by the Politico website earlier in the day. Olbermann acknowledged the donations in a statement to Politico, saying he gave the maximum legal donation of $2,400 to Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords and Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, who waged an unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Senate against Tea Party standard-bearer Rand Paul.
According to Politico, Olbermann's donations to Grijalva and Giffords came on October 28th, the same day both candidates appeared on his show. NBC's ethics policy reads:
"Anyone working for NBC News who takes part in civic or other outside activities may find that these activities jeopardize his or her standing as an impartial journalist because they may create the appearance of a conflict of interest. Such activities may include participation in or contributions to political campaigns or groups that espouse controversial positions. You should report any such potential conflicts in advance to, and obtain prior approval of, the president of NBC News or his designee."
Olbermann notes that he has never urged anybody, publicly or privately, to make campaign donations to any candidate.

Keith Olbermann Mocks Ken Mehlman

In a piece parodying that ridiculous phone call to Anita Hill by the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Keith Olbermann used Ken Mehlman as example of some other people who have no right to apologies.
