Dating Site For Virgins Launches

There's a new dating website for virgins only. And don't even think about trying to join if you aren't one.

"Single virgins view our site as a safe place to meet other like-minded singles," said Lety Colin, who founded the site with her husband, Jose. "That's because we use a reliable screening process." Jose Colin explained that all profiles are screened, and the basic information provided by potential members is independently verified. "We figure if someone is not honest about themselves, they may not be honest regarding their status as a virgin." The Colins themselves were virgins when they married. They say it strengthens their bond as husband and wife. They believe strongly in virginity before marriage - and in their website.

In all caps, the site's owners say their virginity-proving method HAS BEEN TESTED.

All In The Family On Craigslist

This week's Dear Prudence advice column in Slate deals with a bisexual married man who says his own (also opposite-married) father-in-law tried to hook-up with him on Craigslist. His letter reads, in part:

The issue is, I am bi-sexual and have known so for quite some time. My quandary is, about a month ago I responded to a posting on Craigslist. It was from an older gentleman who, like myself, is bi and was looking for some discreet fun. In responding to the ad, I sent a faceless/headless picture of myself without a shirt on. He responded back to me with some pictures that were a bit more graphic and a phone number. Upon seeing the number, I became immediately undone. It was the cell phone number of my wife's dad—my father-in-law! Once I realized it was him, I never responded back to him. I received several e-mails subsequently asking me what was going on and if I was still interested. However, not only did he e-mail me from his personal e-mail address, stupidly, he used the joint one with my mother-in-law. Fast-forward a few weeks. My mother-in-law was checking e-mail and somehow found the exchange between my father-in-law and myself. Obviously, and justifiably, she has become hysterical. She found the e-mail that I sent to him (from an anonymous e-mail address) that had my picture. It gets worse; she told my wife and her sister and brother, and they are trying to figure out who this guy is who "seduced" dad.

Some of the column's commenters are calling BS on the entire letter, but the discussion on bisexuality and fidelity is worthwhile.

Manhunt Vs. Grindr?

JMG reader David over at Wicked Gay Blog says he's been tipped that Manhunt is about to launch a competitor to Grindr called "Assfinder." SRSLY. Or at least, Assfinder is the working name until the product goes live.

Wingnut DC Paper Goes Looking For Grindrs Around Capitol Hill

Reporters from the wingnut Washington Examiner loaded up Grindr on their iPhone and tried to zero in on gay men around Capitol Hill, the White House, and the Pentagon. Unsurprisingly, they found lots of action.

Yeas & Nays visited three of Washington's power centers -- Capitol Hill, the White House and the Pentagon -- to see if the application is truly being used everywhere. There were pages and pages of men on Capitol Hill. Just outside the House gallery, we were 393 feet away from an attractive 27-year-old Georgetown grad. On the White House lawn, only 17 gay men were within our reach, but once inside the press briefing room, the application identified many more options. On the Pentagon grounds, the device offered several pages of available gay men. That could be a problem for military workers in the building -- even though the House voted last week to repeal "don't ask, don't tell," it's still being enforced. "Being out anyway, including on GrindR, is still a risk under 'don't ask, don't tell,' " said Aaron Tax, a legal director at Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.

The below clip may seem lighthearted, but it serves as a reminder that the person homing in on your iPhone may not be a friend.

Subway Dating Service Launches

A new website has launched in which one enters his or her NYC subway commute details and searches for possible hook-ups among nearby riders with similar routes. It's an underground Grindr, of sorts.

"Every day, before and after your commute, you're surrounded by people," said the site's developer, Paris-based programmer Laurent Kretz. "Among them, there might be a bass player for your band -- or a cute girl you could date." Kretz first thought of the idea when he asked a woman he routinely saw at an East Village subway station if she could help him with his Spanish. "I was living in the East Village, working on 57th and Seventh," he said. "Sometimes, after work, we met around the station at the Starbucks at Cooper Square. It lasted a couple of months." The site kicked off two days ago and already has users searching for friends or romantic connections on the subway. Once you make a profile -- similar to what you'd create on Facebook -- the site will allow you to view the profiles of other people along the commute and send them messages.

The site's operator has created similar sites for London and Paris. He plans to expand to numerous cities and countries.

UPDATED: Phoenix Man Stabbed To Death During Grindr Hook-Up With 19 Year-old

UPDATE: Police are saying that despite earlier reports, Grindr was NOT the service used by the killer to meet his victim. Via press release:

Our detectives have learned through this continuing investigation that it was not the "Grinder" IPHONE application that was used by the victim to make contact with the suspect, it was in fact a different social network. Because this investigation is continuing, I do not have the information regarding the actual site that was used. I would ask that, as you continue to report this grizzly crime to your viewers readers and listeners, you use "unknown social network" in regards to how the victim and suspect were connected.

Phoenix police say 54 year-old Mark Woodland was brutally murdered on Sunday by 19 year-old Tommy Reed when the two hooked-up after meeting on Grindr an unknown social media site.

Phoenix Police Det. James Holmes said officers responded to a residence in the area of 40th Street and Greenway Road around midnight Sunday after a resident returned home to find his apartment ransacked. When officers went inside to check they found a downstairs bathroom door closed and the lights on inside, according to Holmes. They did not get an answer to a knock on the door. Holmes said when officers looked under the door they could see a body on the floor and when they forced the door open found the victim badly beaten. He also appeared to have been stabbed repeatedly, Holmes said. Phoenix firefighters were called to the home and the victim, 54-year-old Mark Woodland, was pronounced dead. Woodland's roommate reported he had received a text message from the victim around 5 p.m. saying he was going to pick up a male date, whom he met on a social networking application, and bring him home. Woodland apparently asked his roommate to not be at home. The victim reportedly sent a second text at around 6 p.m. to ensure that his roommate had left the apartment. The roommate left and returned around 11 p.m. to find the home ransacked.

Using the victim's phone, police were able to contact a friend in California who provided the user name of the suspect.
