"I honestly believe if Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck announced that they were in favor of the Black Plague, you'd see every Republican primary candidate for president go along with it."

Alan Grayson On Giffords Shooting

"I know nothing about the man who shot Gabby, and what was going through his mind when he did this. But I will tell you this - if he shot Gabby out of hatred, then it wasn't Gabby he was shooting, but rather some cartoon version of her, drawn by her political opposition. Because there is no way - NO WAY - that anyone who really knows Gabby could hate her or hurt her. She is a kind, gentle soul." - Former Rep. Alan Grayson, via press release.

According to Grayson, only one House Democrat who won in 2008 with a less than ten point margin was reelected on Tuesday. Grayson and 22 others were not. Grayson closes the interview with "we'll see" when asked if he'll run for office again.

FLORIDA: Daniel Webster Maintains Seven Point Lead Over Rep. Alan Grayson

There have only been two independent polls in Rep. Alan Grayson's battle with teabagger Daniel Webster and yesterday's shows that Webster is maintaining a seven-point lead. Along with Rep. Anthony Weiner (NY), Grayson has been an entertaining and dramatic voice for progressives. It's going to really suck to lose him.

FLORIDA: Rep. Alan Grayson Trails Challenger Daniel Webster By 7 Points

Things aren't looking so great for one of our favorite House members, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL). Talking Points Memo on the just-released poll:
A new Susquehanna (R)/Sunshine State News poll of Florida's 8th District shows fiery liberal Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson trailing his Republican opponent, former state Sen. Dan Webster. The numbers: Webster 43%, Grayson 36%, plus 6% for Tea Party candidate Peg Dunmire and independent George Metcalfe. The survey of likely voters has a ±4.14% margin of error. There is no previous poll of this race by this firm for direct comparison. The pollster's analysis finds that Grayson's unfavorable rating is at 51%: "He's even more unpopular than the president, which is not surprising given how controversial he has been with his rhetoric, overall style and TV ads."
Grayson was criticized last week for an ad attacking Webster which CNN and other outlets said had been edited to twist Webster's words. Grayson appeared on CNN to defend the ad.

GOP Sues Florida Tea Party

World Net Daily has rescinded its sponsorship of the Florida Tea Party's 2010 convention after the GOP sued the group in state court. Because the Florida Tea Party is secretly full of Democrats. Via the Orlando Sentinel:
The state Republican Party launched an attack on the Florida Tea Party on Wednesday, paying for lawsuits against several Tea candidates with the hope of ejecting them from races for a congressional seat and three state House seats. It's the latest twist in an escalating battle that pits the Republican establishment and grass-roots tea-party activists against the Florida Tea political party and the firebrand Democratic congressman from Orlando, U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson.

The Florida Tea Party, established by Windermere attorney Fred O'Neal and political consultant Doug Guetzloe, has put up candidates in races across the state. Most are Florida House races, but Florida Tea Party candidate Peg Dunmire is running against Grayson. Some activists in the tea-party movement — who oppose establishing a formal political party — allege the Florida Tea Party is bogus, and meant to draw conservative votes away from Republican candidates to give Democrats an edge.
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) responds: "I once saw a dying iguana with an arrow through its skull. It was thrashing around in a way very much like the Republican Party of Florida does today. As for all these whining Tea Parties factions, or fractions of factions, as Shakespeare said in Romeo and Juliet, 'a plague on both your houses.' ''

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) Introduces The "War Is Making You Poor Act"

Rep. Alan Grayson proposes a bill that:
* Limits the amount of funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
* Eliminates the federal income tax on the first $35,000 of every American’s income ($70,000 for married couples)
* Cuts the Federal deficit by $15.9 billion

The bill requires the president to fund the wars from the $549 billion budget for defense spending in FY 2011. “There is no longer any need to go beyond the exorbitant base defense budget," Grayson said. "It is not necessary. Enough is enough."
Not a chance in hell of passing, but at least somebody is screaming about war spending. Watch this.
